El Cid, Los Angeles

Shot and Written by Alaina Romero

Five piece indie rock band Boyscott took the stage at El Cid on Friday night, passing through L.A. on their North American fall tour. β€œHey guys...” greeted lead singer and guitarist Scott Hermo Jr., to which he and his band were met with a cacophony of cheers and applause. The band went on to play a solid mix of old and new songs, all of which were beautifully executed via guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and vocals. Each member of Boyscott perfectly mixed their talents and whimsy together to create artful music, the kind you need to hear live. Joining Hermo on vocals, pianist Emma Willler (a.k.a. Lazy Trail) carried her half of the harmony with perfect timing. Guitarist Thomas Bora and bassist Davey Alaimo (a.k.a. Bunny Boy) acted as the vessel, atop which the vocals floated, like a sailboat drifting dreamily across the ocean.  β€œWe’re going to attempt a feat…” Scott announced, said feat being a manual fade into their song, β€œBelow The Ladle”, off of their newest album Spellbound.  This feat was expertly accomplished by each musician, including drummer Noah Dardaris. Spellbound is a perfect title, because that’s exactly how Boyscott leaves you.  Do yourself a favor and see them on tour!
