The Wiltern, Los Angeles

Shot and Written by Alaina Romero

The line at the Wiltern Sunday night stretched down the block and around the street corner. Eager fans had been in lineβ€”many for hoursβ€”excited to see tonight’s main event: I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME. For those unfamiliar, Dallon Weekes’ indie pop project IDKHOW is currently on their Impending Gloom tour across the country. The band hit Los Angeles for the second night of the tour, and their energy was undeniable. One of the most exciting parts was watching the tech crew adapt to keep up with the lively stunts Dallon pulledβ€”climbing into the audience, swinging the microphone stand around, and just generally making the stage his own. But no one matched his spirit quite like the rest of his band. Guitarists Isaac Paul and Anthony Purpura were perfectly suited to take on the stage, and you could never catch them standing stillβ€”you’d more likely see them jumping and spinning while still expertly jamming out. Drummer Ronnie Strauss kept the rhythm without ever missing a beat, and was evidently delighted to do so. The whole band came together to play some sweet music. Several songs were from IDKHOW’s latest and second album, GLOOM DIVISION. β€œSATANIC PANIC” and β€œGLOOMTOWN BRATS” were crowd favorites, and when Dallon took the mic away from himself you could still clearly hear the lyrics from the audience singing along. β€œI’ve got to admit that I feel similarly…” Dallon remarked when met with cheers after asking how L.A. was doing. β€œBut sometimes,” he continued, β€œI think about the past.” He was referring to his 2009 band, The Brobecks and their album Violent Things from which they played β€œVisitation of the Ghost,” which was an awesome pick for fans of his early work, as well as an introduction for those less familiar. No matter which of the two you were, you were singing β€œOh my Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord,” as Dallon instructed you to do and β€œnever stop”. All in all, this was a show to never forget, and if you’re on the radar, do yourself a favor and see I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME on tour!

Alex Sucks, originally from Denver, but now based in L.A., Alex Alvarez, along with guitarist John Luther, drummer Ethan Demoulin, and bassist Garrett Orseno are steeped in The Strokes and the New Rock Revolution of the early aughts, but with true devil-may-care attitude. Their first EP ANGSTY TEEN (2021) put them on the punk scene map and they’ve been growing ever since. Check out their latest album Warm Beers.
