Strawberry Guy :: AJ Woods

Parish, Austin TX

Shot and written by Grace Davis

Alex Stephans, better known as Strawberry Guy traveled from Liverpool, England to Austin, Texas to deliver a night full of bedroom pop and subtle comedy. There is no better way to describe his music than how he described it himself stating that is, "an ethereal mix of orchestral instruments and piano". He was vey humble on stage, soft spoken but confident, and pleased to see his music reach as far as it has. After one of his first few songs he said that he liked the room (Parish), noting that there was a large crowd, but that it was cozy enough to see faces in the balcony. He opened his set by playing one of his most popular songs β€œF song”, capturing every pair of ears for the rest of the night.

From Albuquerque, New Mexico, AJ Woods brought the Austin, Texas crowd a sound that could bring anyone a feeling of peace. I was left the most impressed by an opener that I have been in a while.  He was a phenomenal story teller and seemed very confident on stage. He had an old folk sound with a voice I found similar to Neil Young. He was very kind to supportive audience members when coming off stage. Though he is not on Spotify, he is on band camp. I can assure you, it is worth taking the extra time to find his profile to hear his music.
