Kate Clover :: The Wind-Ups :: Thank You Come Again (5/12/22)
The Make-Out Room
Gallery and Review by Fiestaban Photography
L.A. Punk is back with style for Kate Clover and her backing dapper lads at San Franciscoβs Make-Out Room. If you havenβt seen her before, donβt underestimate her petite frameβshe is coming for every square millimeter of your eardrums and every square inch of your venue. Having moved from a slightly more rockabilly Wanda-Jackson-meets-Blondie sound before the pandemic, her new album βBleed Your Heart Outβ is the original late-70βs Angeleno punk scene writ-small, borrowing from bands such as X (Cloverβs cover of their βYour Phoneβs Off The Hook, But Youβre Notβ is every bit as gritty as the original), The Adolescents, The X-Ray Spex or even The Buzzcocks. It is brash and raucous, with an undertone which implores visionaries to return to their visions. If you havenβt caught this femme-phenom before, her outfit (including boyfriend Brandon Welchez of Crocodiles) will be touring again later this year.
The Wind-Ups
Maybe youβve heard of The Ramones? Maybe you even like The Ramones? Wellβ¦meet The Wind-Ups. From So-Cal, this band is the three-chord riff answer to all the prog-punk youβve been cycling through these past few years. Their album βTry Not To Thinkβ is what you need on your morning run, or just to get your day going
Thank You Come Again
San Franciscoβs own Thank You Come Again, opening up the show with their Sonic Youth-meets-Black-Flagg vibe and a feel-good message of being kind to one other. βWe canβt afford to be mean to each other!β No, we canβt!
