Briscoe :: Coleman Jennings

Shot and written by Grace Davis
Briscoe is an Americana folk-rock band made up of Truett Heintzelman and Philip Lupton out of Austin, Texas. Accompanied by backing band Eric Loop (bass), Jon Clover Brown (keys), and Andrew Read (drums/slide guitar), they dazzled Austin from the second they walked on stage. You could feel their brotherly bond as they played for a packed Stubb's Waller Creek Amphitheater. Heintzelman and Lupton have an amazing groove, especially Lupton's righteous saxophone solos. During their set they played two covers, βTake it Easyβ by the Eagles (which they played with Coleman Jennings) and, one of my favorite songs ever written, βDon't Think Twice It's Alrightβ by Bob Dylan. Attention won't be an issue for Briscoe as they continue to grow and represent the beautiful Texas hill country, gathering their flock as they tour the rest of America.
Coleman Jennings
Coleman Jennings opened up the stage for Briscoe with the freshest, most authentic Texas country sound weβve heard in quite a while. With a voice similar Willie Nelson in heartbreaking richness and incredible quality, he still retains his own modern artistic direction. Being an Austin-based artist, it was only appropriate for him to cover βLuckenbach Texasβ by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson, which his voice was, of course, perfect for.
