Deap Valley
A bittersweet symphony and a final farewell to Deap Valley (Lindsey Troy and Julie Edwards), whom after 13 years and three full-length albums (plus an album as Deap Lips, in collaboration with The Flaming Lips) have decided to call it quits, (citing what they call a βmusic industry thatβs incompatible with their current livesβ, as well as "re-establishing a workflow and connection around our friendshipβ ). Meeting at a crochet group in L.A., Deap Valley has all the angst and raw energy of a Joan Jett or a Yeah Yeah Yeahs, with slightly more tongue-in-cheek. Albums like Sistrionix (which was re-released last year as Sistrionix 2.0) or Femijism are not just peak female-lead rock albums, but rock nβ roll albums period. Opening for The Violent Femmes in 2022, and now closing on a high note, hereβs wishing them the best on all future endeavors!
Death Valley Girls
Hailing from the astral world to bring the world their Stevie-Nicks-meets-Black-Sabbath βdoom boogieβ, Death Valley Girls is psyched-out pure heart with a dark flame in the belly. The fearsome foursome of Bonnie Bloomgarden (vocals/organ), Sarah Linton (bass), Larry Schemel (guitar), and Rikki Watson (drums) were the perfect opener for Deap Valley. Check out their latest album I Am A Wave.
