Canadian sensations (and JUNO-award winning) Good Kid gave one of the stand-out performances of the year, debuting their hit single β€œSummer” along with their newly released EP Good Kid 4 and selling out the entirety of their North American tour. Their indie-pop hooks (a la Panic! At The Disco or early-aughts emo-punk) have garnered critical acclaim as well as major social media attention, with Youtube legend Mr. Beast featuring their songs in his videos and netting the band over 233 million views. And with frontman Nick Frosst also being the co-founder of the multi-billion dollar A.I. language platform Cohere, the band has a wide berth to make it not just big, but huge. Don't worry if you missed their stellar performance at The El Rey Theater in L.A. this time around, you will be seeing Good Kid around campus (or on TikTok).

The Rare Occasions

The Providence Rhode Island-born, Brian McLaughlin (singer) and Luke Imbusch (drummer) started making music in high school, under the name The Valar. After adding Jeremy Cohen (bassist), the new trio became The Rare Occasions (formerly The Custodians). After winning the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2014 (founded by Yoko Ono Lennon), the band released a string of EPs (as well as achieving early TikTok virality in 2016 with β€œNotion”), with a first full-length album Into The Shallows in 2018, followed by Big Whoop in 2021. Releasing a new series of singles and EP in 2022, their touring has been extensive, bringing their sometimes-existentialist indie-pop-punk to wider and wider audiences. Be on the lookout for their latest single β€œDarling, The Planets”, which comes out on April 26th.

Adan Diaz

The 20 year old Adan Diaz (pronounced β€˜ah-dawn’) has been killing it for over five years, creating mesmerizing and earnest bedroom pop. Hailing from Chicago, he is marking his marking his territory for future endeavors, including this year’s Lollapalooza. Check out his 2023 EP luchador.
