Itβs metal, but moreβ¦love.
Whether you like metal, prog-rock or nu-punk, The Atomic Bomb Audition (which includes Alee Karim on guitar, Brian Gleeson on drums, Jason Hoopes on bass and βThe Norman Conquestβ on keyboards) has got something for you. Formed in the Bay Area in 2004, their sound is both viscous and vicious, heart-pounding and heartbreaking, throbbing and gristle. Itβs metal, but moreβ¦love. Corporealized out of the ether between Emerson, Lake & Palmer, YES, Sabbath and P.I.L. (they even included an magnificently gritty cover of Joy Divisionβs βNew Dawn Fadesβ), TABA is self-described as βthe breakup-song soundtrack for the end of civilizationβ. Utilizing the pandemic to release two new tracks, check out their band camp here.
Oxide
Entirely melodic and quite proggy, Oxide is sometimes Pixies, sometimes My Bloody Valentine and all metal. Hailing from Oakland, CA, this band lent a tremendous cache of hardcore with their featured set.
Vindula
Hailing from Modesto, CA, but currently based in Oakland, CA, Vindula is technically a supergroup, comprised of members of Two Gallants, Squalus, Disastroid, and Brume. Bringing a more throbbing psychedelic vibe (a la Deerhoof or early PJ Harvey) to the show, this fourtet isnβt to be missed.
