Flipturn is an indie rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, made up of Dillon Basse (vocals, guitar), Tristan Duncan (lead guitar), and Taylor Allen (bass). Since their founding in 2015, they've added Mitch Fountain on synth and Devon VonBalson on drums. Flipturn has gained a loyal following through their energetic live performances and their blend of indie rock, alternative, and dream-pop elements. Their music often features bright, catchy melodies paired with introspective lyrics that touch on themes of youth, relationships, and the complexities of growing up. Some of their most popular tracks include βChicagoβ, βVanillaβ, and βAugustβ which have earned them widespread recognition in the indie music scene.
Within the two weeks of Austin City Limits weekend, they played three shows for Austin. They played both weekends of the festival and one show at the Scoot Inn as a separately ticketed event for non-festival goers. Flipturn has a reputation for delivering insane live performances, which they absolutely lived up to. The venue was also perfect for their musical feel, making the show feel like a big dance party. I noticed that Flipturnβs music, which can feel polished and carefully crafted in the studio, took on a more raw, urgent quality when performed live, giving it an added depth thatβs hard to capture in recordings. Basseβs vocals were a standout, mixing heartfelt intensity with a raw, emotional edge, while the rest of the band created a layered, immersive soundscape that combined driving guitar riffs and atmospheric synths. The band's chemistry on stage was evident, with the members feeding off each other's energy, adding spontaneity and flair to their performance. Overall, their show was full of energy, with an infectious enthusiasm that got the crowd moving.

The duo had a great live performance, where their onstage chemistry and heartfelt delivery created an intimate experience for the Flipturn audience.
