Piranha hosted the perfect spooky season evening at 4 Star Theater in San Francisco, CA consisting of three outstanding sets by Tremors, Pink Stiletto and System Exclusive. 4 Star is a movie theater with a record store in the front and in the back is a single movie theater. Salted buttered popcorn scent floated through the air. In the movie theater itself, a stage stood in front of the movie screen creating an aesthetic like none otherβthe movie theater created an ideal space for the evening.
Before the show began, attendees browsed through the wide selection of records and music-related merchandise in the front of the theater. Many attendees dressed in costumes, often home-made or thrifted outfits for the occasion. Piranha hosted a costume contest for attendees between the sets. The evening included unique synth sounds and 1980s inspired pop-punk.
To start off the evening, Piranha performed a drag number and kept the audience on their toes while having a few costume changes.
Tremours is a Los Angeles-based duo consisting of Lauren Andino from South Carolina, USA and Glenn Fryatt is from Portsmouth, England. This fall, they have been touring throughout the month of October in the U.S. and plan to continue touring next month in the U.K. Their music had the perfect dark, edgy undertones for the Halloween mood. Andino and Fryatt played to each other back and forth, especially during the musical breaks. They performed many songs such as βPort Children.β Andinoβs soft voice along with the drum set and guitars created a unique sound similar to Mitch Rowland with a darker twist.
Pink Stiletto
Pink Stiletto, led by Valery Kvochkova, is a San Francisco-based band. Kvochkova performed their new single βSynthesizeβ which was released earlier this year and includes lyrics in both English and French. Pink Stiletto also performed songs from her EP NEW WAVA such as the catchy βIce Eyesβ. Often joined by other band members, this was the first time Kvochkova performed her music solo as Pink Stiletto while her band mates took time off to welcome a new baby into the family. Kvochkova was in full support of her bandmateβs decision saying, βYouβve got to support your friends.β Kvochkova took the stage by storm and made use of all the space. She even invited dancer Janna to join her performance on stage, which added a complimentary element to the music. Janna mentioned that β[Kvochkovaβs] beats make it easy to dance.β Kvochkova showed her true, kind self by getting to know the audience and empathizing with others after her killer performance.
System Exclusive
System Exclusive, a duo consisting of Ari Blaisdell Jones and Matt Jones, released their most recent album earlier this year Click. They played many songs from their new album including title-track βClickβ βCanβt Stand 4 Itβ and β2 Little 2 Lateβ. System Exclusive has been on tour for the past year and a half. They even wrote βCarry Onβ while on the road to describe the difficulties that came with living on the road. Their music had an upbeat β80s electronic sound ideal for dancing. For the Halloween spirit, Ari dressed in a futuristic dress with a silver tinsel wig while Matt dressed as a mummy. The two married earlier this year.
